Nina is 11, and this will be the third time restyling her room. The first was her Nursery, the second, her Toddler room, and currently her Pre-teen room.
This will be the first time we are replacing the Window Treatment.
This started me thinking about the many changes that most children's rooms go through before they reach the teen years, and the expense of restyling the room as each change happens.
The Nursery, Toddler, Pre-Teen, and Teen Rooms. Possibly four room updates.
An estimated cost of a Custom Window Treatment, for a small to average size window for labor alone, can start at a min. of $200.00. Add to that, fabric, trim, lining, hardware and installation. The cost could easily reach $600.00. These are just estimates, but take this example x 4. $600 x 4= $2400.00. Depending on your budget, changing the window treatment each time you do your child's room may be out of the question. This is one reason, I like to think beyond the Nursery when choosing fabrics and wall coverings. Making choices that will transition easily as your child grows, will help ease the cost of what will seam like the ever changing room design. When they are ready to transition from crib into bed, all that will be needed is some new paint, the bed of course, additional bedding to coordinate with original window treatments and pillows, and updated accessories .
Before I proceed forward, I thought it would be fun to share a bit of the past with you.
I have been looking up old pictures. What fun it has been, so many memories! It has been a bit bittersweet too. They really do grow up way too fast!
I did this room in 2001, long before I started Beautiful Spaces. Even then I was thinking ahead when I chose the fabrics and furnishings. My thought was, good planning would help to keep the cost down when the time came to transition into a more grown up room. Good planning did pay off and I will share that with you next time.
