Bringing Spring Inside

Let's just go ahead and say it. " Is it ever going to stop raining?"
This certainly has been a less than awe inspiring Spring.  Some people think of the first of the year as a time of new beginnings.  Spring is that time of year for me. Spring is a wonderful testament to the possiblity of rebirth.  Trees and plant life  appear to be lifeless, when really they have been resting. Then once again, show us there amazing display of beauty.
Birds we have not seen for months start to come back as if they know they are always welcome guests.  And they are!
Yes, the rain seams intent on taking center stage right now. There is definitely beauty in the color grey, but right now I personally have had enough grey skies.

So lets bring some spring inside when there doesn't seam to be any outside.

Here are a few of my favorite ways to bring some of the happiness and promise of Spring inside the home.
First , start with a good Spring cleaning.
Next, take a look around and see if there is some clutter you can clear out.  When Spring and Summer role around, I don't know about you, but I always think I need to lighten up a bit.  So pick a room and start to lighten up.  Edit out  things that look tired or that don't make you smile.  Make some room for that really special  piece of artwork on your wall.
Or for now ,just leave a blank canvas.  Don't worry, the perfect piece  is waiting just around the corner.

Take a cue from nature and don't be afraid to experiment with a little bit of color.  Even in small doses. Artwork is a usually a safe way to add a great pop of color.
Remember that there is color even in the whitest flower.
Even the smallest hint of a bright color can be fresh and wonderful!

Bring home some flowers

Fresh cut, or with some fabulous artwork.  Hang some lovely Botanical or Bird prints up where you usually have something else.
Every Spring I switch out the paintings I have in my powder room. In place of holly I place some bird prints I have featuring beautiful yellows and spring meadow greens.
This small gesture changes the feeling in the room from reflective to hopeful.

One of my favorite natural wildlife artists is David Kiehm. His work is impeccable and these pictures do not begin to show the beauty and detail of his work.  Visit his website at to see some more of his amazing talent.

While out last night with friends for dinnner I became aware that my blog, Destination Home was possibly going to go public. Saying that I am a newbee to social networking would be putting it mildlly . I have been keeping my blog under raps waiting for the right moment.

Sometimes in life as in decorating we need a push from someone who cares, someone we trust. Leaving our comfort zone can be scary.
For those of you who choose to read or folllow my blog, WELCOME!   I hope I have some fun and exciting things  to share along the way.

So here is a toast to doing just that.

Leaving our comfort zone, hopefully with someone we trust and trying something new.
